The Quick Facts

  • On Friday, June 1st, the United States Department of Labor released its May Jobs Report.
  • The U.S. economy added 223,000 net (non-farm) jobs in May.
  • Unemployment fell to 3.8%, the lowest rate in 18 years.
  • The unemployment rate for African-Americans fell to 5.9%, the lowest ever on record.
  • This is the 92nd consecutive month in which the United States has seen job growth.
  • Year-over-year wage growth reached 2.7%.
  • Prior to the release of the jobs report, President Trump drew rebukes for tweeting, "Looking forward to seeing the employment numbers at 8:30 this morning."

Food For Thought

Is the strong economy a result of a natural cycle or should it be attributed to President Trump's policies? Was President Trump's tweet out of line?
