The Lincoln Project
Jul 30, 2020 at 02:08 AM

The Quick Facts

  • The Lincoln Project is a political action committee formed in late 2019 by several prominent individuals associated with the Republican Party. Founders include John McCain’s presidential campaign manager, the former chair of the New Hampshire Republican Party, the former political director of the California Republican Party, and several media and political consultants.
  • The goal of the committee is to prevent the reelection of Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election and defeat his supporters in the United States Senate.
  • In April 2020, the committee announced their endorsement of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
  • The Lincoln Project has produced a number of anti-Trump and pro-Biden television advertisements. About two-thirds of the group's ads focus on the 2020 presidential election, but the Lincoln Project has also created ads backing Democrats in other races.
  • President Trump has addressed the group in several tweets, calling it “a disgrace to Honest Abe,” and labeling its founders “losers” and “Republicans in name only.”

Food For Thought

Is the Lincoln Project a positive or negative addition to America’s democracy? Will the group have a substantial effect on the 2020 election and beyond?
