- On Tuesday, former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was found guilty of the murder of Botham Jean.
- In September 2018, Guyger, who is white, shot and killed Jean, her black unarmed neighbor, while Jean was watching television in his apartment directly above Guyger’s.
- Guyger said she had mistakenly entered Jean’s apartment believing it to be her own. Thinking Jean was an intruder, she drew her weapon and shot him.
- The jury will deliver sentencing after hearing additional testimony, which began Tuesday afternoon. Under Texas law, Guyger’s sentence could range from five years to life in prison.
