The nation of Syria has been engulfed in civil war and unrest since 2011. The violent conflict has resulted in a major humanitarian and refugee crisis in the region. The United States led an international military intervention in Syria in 2014 and has since maintained an active, open-ended military position in the country with the goal of removing Syrian president Bashar Assad.
Last week, President Trump stated in a speech in Ohio that the US military will be "coming out of Syria very soon."
