The Quick Facts

On March 1st, President Trump announced his plan to impose new tariffs on all steel and aluminum imported into the United States from foreign countries. The proposed tariffs are 25% on imported steel and 10% on imported aluminum.

The plan to impose tariffs has drawn criticism from some Republican and Democratic lawmakers in the US and has generated international concern over global trade relations. Following the announcement, the stock market fell over 2%.

On Sunday night the Trump administration defended the plan and re-emphasized support for the tariffs.
