After 16 Years, End Injustice at Guantanamo
This opinion piece was chosen as a view from the left based on the following types of sentiments expressed:
- At Guantanamo, prisoners have been held captive without charge for 16 years now, with some prisoners being subject to unfair trials by military commissions or, in some cases, no trial at all.
- Guantanamo Bay has been the location of countless human rights abuses and actions of torture on suspected terrorists, often justified by unreliable information or false admissions of guilt.
- American violations of international law at Guantanamo invite “global condemnation” and undermine America's global reputation as a champion of human rights. As such, the facility must be shut down.
