The Quick Facts

  • On Sunday, the U.S.A. Women’s Soccer team defeated the Netherlands 2-0 to win the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
  • In March, the U.S. women filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against U.S. Soccer, alleging they are paid 38 cents to the dollar earned by their male counterparts. The case is currently in mediation.
  • U.S. player Megan Rapinoe, honored as the World Cup’s top scorer and best player, used her moment in the spotlight to call on United States Soccer to “set things right for the future” by giving the women’s team a raise.

Food For Thought

Does a pay gap exist between the U.S.A. Men’s and Women’s soccer teams? Do the women deserve to be paid more money?
