- On November 4th, three women and six children, all U.S. citizens, were murdered on a rural road near La Mora, in the northern Mexican state of Sonora.
- While it remains unclear whether the attack was intentionally planned, those killed were from a fundamentalist Mormon family that had spoken out against local criminal groups in the past.

- 275,000 people have been murdered in Mexico since 2007, including 33,000 in 2018 alone. The region where the murders took place is in the territory of the Sinaloa Cartel, which was led for many years by the infamous Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.
